  • A man in Germany snuck onto two flights on two consecutive days and managed to fly to Sweden.

  • Bild reported he raised suspicions on arrival because he immediately wanted to return to Munich.

  • Munich Airport and local police are investigating how he bypassed security and boarding checks.

A man managed to board two flights in two days without a ticket at Munich Airport.

A spokesperson for the Bavarian State Police told Business Insider that the 39-year-old Norwegian, who hasn't been named, is under investigation for trespassing and fare evasion.

On August 4, he boarded a plane to Hamburg, in the north of Germany, with other passengers but was apprehended and handed over to police before it took off, according to the spokesperson.

The following day, the spokesperson added, the man returned to the airport and was able to fly to the Swedish capital, Stockholm, despite not being properly booked onto the flight.

The German newspaper Bild reported that he raised suspicions in Stockholm because he wanted to return to Munich immediately after landing. The report added that it was a Lufthansa flight.

A spokesperson for Munich Airport told BI it's investigating how the man was "able to bypass the automated boarding pass check in front of the security checkpoint."

Bild reported that the 39-year-old was able to sneak through by closely following another passenger at the automated check.

The airport spokesperson added that the airline is investigating how he passed the boarding pass check at the gate.

A Lufthansa spokesperson told BI the airline is aware of the case and in close contact with the authorities, but further details are unavailable as the investigation is ongoing. The Bavarian State Police spokesperson said it believes the man posed no danger.

This isn't the first time in recent months that somebody has managed to get onto a plane without a ticket.

In March, a man was arrested after prosecutors said he boarded a Delta flight using a photo of another passenger's ticket.

A month earlier, another man boarded a flight at London Gatwick Airport by tailgating other passengers through checkpoints.
