Man stabbed in neck and face during street brawl

A man suffered serious injuries after being stabbed during an altercation on a Devon high street, police said.

The incident happened at about 19:00 BST on Tuesday on Ilfracombe High Street when a fight involving a group of men broke out, Devon and Cornwall Police said.

The force added a man in his 30s sustained knife wounds to his neck and face, but the injuries were not life-threatening.

A 55-year-old man from Ilfracombe, who suffered knife injuries to his hand, has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 wounding with intent and remains in custody.

Police said the road was closed for about two hours while initial investigations were carried out.

Officers recovered a knife at the scene, the force added.

Both men who suffered knife injuries were taken to North Devon District Hospital for treatment.
