Man Utd will hold ‘talks’ with £61m Bundesliga forward on one condition – Falk
Sport Bild journalist Christian Falk has hinted at “talks” between Man Utd and Dani Olmo’s representatives if he doesn’t sign a new contract at RB Leipzig.
The Red Devils are looking for attacking reinforcements this summer as they look to take some of the goalscoring burden away from Marcus Rashford.
Olmo is more of a wide forward or attacking midfielder and has contributed five goals and four assists in all competitions this season.
Man Utd are long-term admirers of the Spain international and, with his future at Leipzig up in the air, the Red Devils could attempt to bring him to Old Trafford in the summer.
Olmo currently has a contract offer on the table from the Bundesliga side, which would make him the club’s top earner, but Falk reckons there will be “talks” with Man Utd and other clubs if he turns them down.
“Leipzig is still working hard to get Dani Olmo on a new contract. He has an option to sign a new contract that would give him a release clause – €60m for Spain, €70m (£61m) for another country,” Falk wrote on CaughtOffside.
“Perhaps they would lower that fee also, so they’re prepared to negotiate. He would be the highest-earner at the club, earning about €10m.
“At the moment, the feeling is that he won’t sign the contract. His dream is to play for Barcelona but they don’t have the money at the moment, so perhaps Real Madrid can also be interesting.
“I can say Bayern Munich doesn’t have him on the list, so English clubs could get involved. Manchester United was interested and that doesn’t always go away quickly. I think there will be talks from the agents because at the moment he will be sold in the summer if they don’t find a new solution with the contract.”
David de Gea has reportedly ‘accepted’ terms of a reduced new contract at Man Utd but that hasn’t stopped rumours that the Red Devils will look to bring in another goalkeeper this summer.
Bayern Munich’s Yann Sommer is one potential arrival with speculation that he could leave the defending German champions in the summer transfer market.
On Sommer, Falk added: “I heard there was a gentleman’s agreement made with Yann Sommer when there were the initial negotiations to come to Bayern that if Manuel Neuer returns as the No.1 – and Tuchel made no secret of the fact that he will be No.1 if fit – Sommer will be allowed to leave.
“The money isn’t too much for a Premier League club at €8m. It gets a bit more expensive if Bayern win the championship – it could get to €10m. Manchester United were very interested and were in talks with Bayern when they brought in Sommer.
“They’re still interested, there’s the situation with David de Gea to consider, I think they have to do something in this position. Sommer is a man in the focus of Manchester United for the position. Bayern Munich would sell him if they are sure Neuer is back.
“Yann Sommer ultimately wants to play in the Euros in 2024, so he wants to be the No.1 for a club and not challenge Manuel Neuer for his place.”
