SINGAPORE — A man who operated a drone within 5km of Seletar Airport and Paya Lebar Air Base was charged in court on Tuesday (6 August), the second reported case of individuals charged over drone activity in two months.

Homen Wong, 20, is accused of operating a DJI Mavix Pro, weighing 0.743kg, at the open field next to Sengkang LRT Station on 8 February last year.

Wong faces one count of operating a small unmanned aircraft outdoors for recreation purpose without a valid Class 2 activity permit, a breach under Section 72F(2) of the Air Navigation Order.

The breach carries a fine of up to $20,000 on a first conviction.

Wong's plead guilty mention has been fixed for 3 September.

Last month, two men were charged in court over recreational drone use in the first case involving individuals.

Ed Chen Junyuan and Tay Miow Seng were charged on 5 July with operating drones without permits near Paya Lebar Air Base. Their cases are still pending.

Also last month, a construction company was fined $9,000 for using a drone illegally for its work.

LT Sambo's Singapore branch was the first entity in Singapore to be dealt with for operating a drone without a permit.
