Manchester United are prepared to offer Angel Gomes a deal worth around £1.5million a year to stay at Old Trafford.

Gomes, 19, is out of contract at the end of the season and is yet to agree fresh terms, with Chelsea among the teams looking at the England Under-20 midfielder. According to sources, he has not yet decided on where his future lies.

United are determined to keep the teenager and he could secure a deal worth £30,000-a-week by remaining at the club where he has come through the Academy to play in the first team.

Gomes has played six times in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team and he has been earmarked as a homegrown player of the future at the club, which has been an important part of a change in direction for the club in the last year.

They have already persuaded Dutch forward Tahith Chong to stay at the club when it appeared he would be heading to Inter Milan in Italy. Chong was also out of contract this summer before putting pen to paper on fresh terms.

United hope that Gomes will follow him by committing his future to the club, with a pathway to the first team appearing clearer than at other top-six clubs. Solskjaer has appeared determined to bring through younger talent and has established Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Brandon Williams and Mason Greenwood in his plans.

Gomes has been at United since the age of six and made his first-team debut two years ago, while this season he has made three starts in the Europa League in matches against Astana and AZ Alkmaar.

He was a World Cup winner with England Under-17s when they triumphed in India in 2017, with Phil Foden and Rhian Brewster also in that team.
