Manchester United's squad looked in high spirits as they continued preparations for their return to European football on Monday.

The Red Devils are due to resume Europa League duties on Wednesday night as Austrian outfit LASK visit Old Trafford.

United - who are trying to strike a deal with Borussia Dortmund to sign England forward Jadon Sancho - hold a commanding lead in that last-16 tie, having ran out emphatic 5-0 winners in the first leg at an empty stadium in Linz in March in what was their final fixture before football's coronavirus shutdown.

Odion Ighalo, Dan James, Juan Mata, Mason Greenwood and Andreas Pereira were all on target in that match, giving manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer chance to experiment with his lineup for the return clash.

Central defender Eric Bailly was pictured taking part in training on Monday and could feature against LASK after recovering from the head injury he suffered during the FA Cup semi-final defeat by Chelsea at Wembley last month.

The likes of Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial, Harry Maguire and David de Gea were among the other stars pictured being put through their paces under the watchful eye of Solskjaer at Carrington.

There were plenty of smiles on show as the players ran through drills and looked to engage in a spot of acrobatic footvolley over a net and under-pressure De Gea - who seems likely to be replaced by deputy Sergio Romero against LASK - got to grips with what looked like a huge balance ball.

United will attempt to win their first piece of silverware under Solskjaer's reign in the Europa League, but they do not need to win the competition to secure a return to the Champions League having finished third domestically courtesy of a 2-0 win over top-four rivals Leicester on the final day of the 2019/20 campaign.

Barring an extraordinary sequence of events, United will face either FC Copenhagen of Denmark or Turkish champions Istanbul Basaksehir in the quarter-finals.

One of Olympiacos, Wolves, Sevilla or Roma would then await in the last four, should the 2016/17 Europa League winners progress that far into this year's competition, which from the quarter-finals onwards will be a straight knockout tournament held across four cities in Germany.
