MANGROVE PLANTING

CABUGAO, Ilocos Sur (PIA) - Some 20 Japanese students with the Organization for Industrial, Spiritual and Cultural Advancement (OISCA) International encouraging students participation in environmental conservation activities who are in the Philippines led in the planting of mangrove along the shores of Barangay Dardarat, this town recently. The mangrove planting is part of a project students started here to sustain mangroves that balances the ecology in this area. Municipal Environment Officer Edgar S. Balangatan said over 1,000 mangrove seedlings were planted in mangrove planters by the students.

E.O.C. ACTIVATION

LUCENA CITY, Quezon - The provincial government's Disaster Risk Reduction 2nd Management Council (PDRRMC) has requested the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction 2nd Management Council (MDRRMC) to activate their emergency operation centers (EOCs) started on December 28 until January 2, 2013 to monitor and respond to emergencies usually occurring at this time. Quezon Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction 2nd Management Council and Office of Civil Defense provincial coordinator Dr. Henry Buzar said December, instead of March, is fast becoming Fire Month due to unsafe fireworks. He said ''more than March, we have observed that more recorded fire incidents happen and are recorded throughout the province and even in the country in December.'' (Danny Estacio)
