Marc Cucurella aims dig at Chelsea board with plea for 'stability' under Enzo Maresca

Marc Cucurella has called for the Chelsea board to bring some “stability” to the club by giving Enzo Maresca the opportunity to succeed.

It has been a typically chaotic couple of years at Stamford Bridge since the consortium led by Todd Boehly completed their takeover, with well over £1bn spent in transfer fees.

Graham Potter was brought in and then sacked within seven months, having signed a five-year contract, while Mauricio Pochettino managed just a season in the Stamford Bridge dugout before he left by mutual consent in May.

The Blues won their final five matches of the season under Pochettino to sixth, securing European football for the current campaign, but the decision was still made to part ways.

It is now Maresca’s turn to try and deliver, though Chelsea have picked up only four points from their opening three Premier League matches.

Cucurella is confident that the Italian can get the best out of the Chelsea squad, but only if there is sufficient “patience” from the club’s hierarchy.

“I think the coach we have (Enzo Maresca) is very good, he has very clear ideas,” Cucurella told EFE.

“We've had years of coaching changes, let's see if we can achieve stability without many changes and so that the manager can transmit his ideas. We need stability, we have very high-level players and hopefully we can have the patience that is needed, that calm, so that everything goes well.

“We have the level, we just need stability and for the coaches and players to be allowed to work in order to do something important.”
