Marcus Rashford will be out until after the winter break with a back injury, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed.

The United striker was not part of Solskjaer’s squad to face Liverpool on Sunday - and it has been confirmed that it will also keep him sidelined for a minimum of a month.

The England international took a knee to the back from Matt Doherty in Wednesday’s FA Cup third round replay against Wolves.

It aggravated an existing issue that Rashford has complained about in recent weeks.

He has been carrying a bone healing machine to aid his recuperation - but tests this week have confirmed he will be unavailable to Solskjaer until February 17 at the earliest when United return from their winter break against Chelsea.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the game at Anfield, Solskjaer said of Rashford: "He’s aggravated his back, he’s had some trouble.

"We’re going to give him time to recover and rest before we put him back on the pitch.

"I wouldn’t expect him to be back in the next few weeks.

"Mid-season break? I’m not sure we’ll see him before then."
