Married couple, two teen children arrested, ecstasy worth RM1.361 mil seized

MUAR: Police arrested a married couple and their two children in a raid on a house in Taman Permata Indah, Sungai Abong, which saw the seizure of ecstasy drug worth RM1.361 million on Thursday. Muar district police chief ACP Zaharudin Rasip said acting on tip-offs and investigation, a team from the Muar police headquarters’ Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department conducted the operation at about 12.30am. “Checks were carried out on the house and a Nissan Teana parked at its compound. The team found ecstasy power weighed 3.35kg and 16,060 ecstasy pills estimated to be worth RM1.361 million in total. “Following the discovery, the husband and wife aged 42 and 44, respectively, as well as their two children aged 16 and 17 to facilitate investigation. “They are being remanded until Sept 5,” he told a Press conference at the district police headquarters today. Zaharudin said the police also confiscated two vehicles, namely, Nissan Teana and Honda CRV, worth about RM170,000, believed to be used by the family. “Checks revealed that the couple had criminal record for drug-related offences. “Urine tests on the husband turned out positive for methamphetamine,” he said. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries a mandatory death penalty. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
