Marseille's 'Benny Hill Show' as owner suffers 'housewife' taunt

Marseille's supporters dispay a banner reading, "Please spare us the humiliation of relegation" on April 10, 2016

Marseille owner Margarita Louis-Dreyfus was targetted by angry fans of the slumping French giants on Sunday when she was blasted as a "housewife" and "incompetent rich heiress". And to hammer home their frustrations, fans even summoned the spirit of saucy British comedian Benny Hill after the former European champions were held to a 0-0 draw by Bordeaux. The result left them just six points off the relegation zone. Ultra fans in the notorious Yankee Nord terrace vented their rage at Margarita Louis-Dreyfus, the widow of former owner Robert Louis-Dreyfus. "Go back to your real job, housewife," said one banner while another fumed "incompetent rich heiress". Marseille have not won a home league game in seven months. The game ended in more bad blood with around 200 supporters having to be dispersed by tear gas. Throughout the highly-charged evening, club president Vincent Labrune was also targetted. Fans even used the theme tune from classic British slapstick comedy, the Benny Hill Show, to voice their fury to accompany a banner featuring grazing sheep, watched over by a caricatured Margarita Louis-Dreyfus. "Save us the humiliation of relegation," demanded the Virage Sud. Another supporters section, The Winners tweeted that Stade Olympique authorities even pulled the plug on their power supply so they could not broadcast their anger through loud-speakers. "The blonde, Labrune and nothingness," added the Virage Sud who suggested Marseille mayor Jean-Claude Gaudin would be a better option in charge of the team.
