SEREMBAN: Ten couples were married today in true Adat Perpatih from Luak Sungei Ujong traditions.
The grand affair saw the brides and grooms adorned in traditional and very colourful wedding attire as the beaming lovebirds were paraded in a traditional tandu (palanquin) before some 1,000 guests, who swarmed the event, which was held in conjunction with this year’s Warna-Warni Adat Perpatih.
Running with the theme ‘Olek Perkahwinan’, the event which was held at Muzium Negeri was jointly organised by the state government, Balai Undang Luak Sungei Ujong and the state’s Museum Board.
Muhd Nor Hakimi Hisham, 25, and Nurul Husna Fara Ain Zainal Abidin, 23, who looked resplendent in a matching red traditional ensemble, said they were happy to be a part of the mass wedding reception.
Nurul Husna, who is from Kuala Lumpur said, she was amazed to witness how the traditional Adat Perpatih from Sungei Luak Ujong wedding was conducted.
“It was wonderful to learn about the traditions, which is still very much alive here. For someone who is not from the state, definitely being a part of this tradition leaves an indelible memory for which I will cherish forever,” she said.
Muhd Nor, who is from Senawang, said that as a Negri Sembilan native, he was proud to have the opportunity to hold his wedding reception in a true Adat Perpatih tradition.
“It’s a unique tradition which I myself look up to. I hope, more events like this will be held in the future to educate more people on this tradition,” he said.
The event, which was officiated by Undang Luak Sungei Ujong, Datuk Kelana Petra Datuk Mubarak Dohak saw the couples treated to a group ‘bersanding’ ceremony on a large traditional dais, witnessed by their family members, friends and guests.
Also present was state Culture and Malay Customs committee chairman, Datuk Abd Razak Ab Said.
