Massachusetts Sees Record-Breaking Snowfall

Snow blanketed large swathes of Massachusetts on Friday, October 30, with the National Weather Service (NWS) reporting record-breaking snowfall in Boston.

This slow-motion footage of snowfall was tweeted by Greg Forrister, who said he captured it in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, on Friday morning.

Meteorologists said the snow began in Worcester, south of Fitchburg, at 7.20 am Friday, before reaching Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

The National Weather Service in Boston said three-and-a-half inches of snow had accumulated in the city by 2 pm on Friday, exceeding the previous daily and monthly records.

Friday’s snowfall is reminiscent of Southern New England’s Halloween Storm in 1991 that also began on Halloween Eve, according to the NWS. Credit: Greg Forrister via Storyful
