Mat Sabu threw mike at Anwar event because he’s had enough of voters’ fears

Mohamad Sabu said his microphone-hurling stunt during a solidarity gathering for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Tuesday was done out of his frustration that Malaysians were not brave enough to stand up against tyranny. The Parti Amanah Negara president, who is affectionately known as Mat Sabu, said this at a gathering in Kelantan last night. He said that compared with the “more progressive” neighbouring countries, Malaysians appeared to be fearful of change and he was fed up about it. “Our neighbours have moved ahead and we are still a bunch of fearful people… until when? “That was why I threw the microphone.” The former PAS leader’s stunt outside the Sungai Buloh prison during Himpunan 365 to mark Anwar’s first year incarceration received mixed reaction from social media users. Some described his behaviour as uncalled for while others said it was part of an act and Mat Sabu’s strategy to attract attention and draw sympathy from the crowd that night. The gathering on Tuesday saw about 1,000 supporters listening to speeches by leaders from PKR, DAP and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah). Mat Sabu added yesterday that Malaysia’s neighbours have succeeded in replacing their allegedly corrupt leaders through exercising the people’s power. He said despite the large-scale corruption here, Barisan Nasional continued to be voted into power just because the people were afraid to change. “At first there was the BMF scandal. “Then we had Perwaja, and then PKFZ. This was followed by the cow and condo scandal. “And now, hew have the 1MDB land purchase by Tabung Haji and the latest revelation about a letter from the Bank Negara governor to Tabung Haji. “But come election time, BN still wins,” a dejected Mat Sabu said. – February 13, 2016.
