The disgraced former health secretary's attempt at appearing relatable backfired on Tuesday night as a short video at the end of the ITV show's episode introducing him as a new campmate included him smiling at the camera, which viewers called "creepy".
Hosts Ant and Dec confirmed in the episode's closing moments that Hancock and comedian Seann Walsh would be arriving in camp in Wednesday night's show and played clips of the pair speaking about why they wanted to go into the jungle.
A close up of Hancock's face showed the "creepy" smile as he said: "When I'm in camp, people will just see the real me. Survival in the jungle is a good metaphor for the world I work in.
"People will see me warts and all, will see the human side of the guy behind the podium."
But viewers were already turned off by his debut appearance, with one person tweeting: "Matt Hancock's smile was blood curdling."

Following the episode, Ant and Dec appeared on an Instagram live where they acknowledged viewers' comments about the smile.
Ant said: "Someone's just said there, Matt's smile at the end, and I know what they mean, touching the brim of the cap...I reckon there'll be a lot of people shouting at the telly," as Dec nodded in agreement.

Another person added: "Matt Hancock's smile is scarier than anything else I've seen in the jungle"
"Matt Hancock has the creepiest smile though, doesn't he?" one tweeter agreed.
Many of the show's viewers have vowed to vote the MP into every trial to express their anger at him taking part in the reality TV show.
People continued to share their outrage at his decision to take part, as one viewer tweeted: "i genuinely cannot believe matt hancock is going in the jungle it does not feel real"
Someone else wrote: "I'm not sure I'm fully prepared to listen to Matt Hancock try and act like he's a normal human being whilst trying to explain away all the truly awful things he was responsible for and the rampant cronyism and ineptitude that led to the deaths of thousands of people."
Hancock and Walsh will be shown entering camp and taking on their first trial in tonight's episode of I'm A Celebrity, which airs at 9pm on ITV.
