Watch: Matthew Marsden slammed for telling fans to ditch face masks and stop getting COVID tests
Actor Matthew Marsden has been criticised by fans after calling the Covid vaccine a “chemical” and suggesting facemasks aren’t all they are cracked up to be.
The former Corrie star also suggested people who wanted to see testing of those without symptoms were 'out of their minds'.
The actor made his feelings known in several posts on Twitter.
In one tweet, he shared a link to a study which claimed that facemasks are ineffective when it comes to blocking transmission of the virus and can actually damage health.
“The truth is, is that they aren’t effective at stopping transmission of the virus, and what is worse is that power hungry people are using them to punish others,” he posted last year.
In another recent tweet, Marsden referred to the vaccine.
“It should not be controversial for someone to advocate for a persons right to choose whether or not they should be injected with a chemical,” he said.
“Personal liberty should be something everyone should get behind. The inconsistency in which it is applied by some, is staggering.”
“People calling for the testing of people that have no symptoms of a virus are out of their minds,” he said in another post.
The actor has now come under fire on Twitter, where some people have taken issue with his stance.
“It goes on forever if we don't test," said one person. "Captain sensible here is yet to figure that out... I doubt if he ever will to be fair. It must be difficult as a wealthy actor, having to sit at home as poor people die. My heart goes out to him.”
“I don't see MD or any other credential that qualifies you to speak on this topic. You are a danger to the health, safety and lives of all humans," said another.
Another said Marsden was “a disgrace”.
