Maya Brady's heroics can't lift UCLA past No. 1 Oklahoma in Women's College World Series

Maya Brady certainly did all she could to keep UCLA in it on Monday afternoon.

Yet her heroics in the first game weren’t enough to get the Bruins past top-seeded Oklahoma at the Women’s College World Series.

Oklahoma cruised to a 15-0 blowout win in the second game on Monday afternoon in Oklahoma City, which bounced UCLA out of the tournament and sent the Sooners into the championship series.

Brady, who is Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady’s niece, hit a pair of home runs in the first game of the afternoon — including a clutch homer in the seventh inning to push them to a 7-3 win.

And, in true Brady family fashion, she celebrated just like her uncle has countless times before.

“I think I just really had an emphasis on showing out for my team,” Brady said on ESPN after the first win. “I just really wanted to get the job done because Holly and Megan pitched a great game. That’s a great team, so we knew that we were going to have to get runs on the board and just ring it up at this point. There’s nothing to lose, so it really helps that our backs against the wall.”

Though that kept them alive and forced an elimination game just 30 minutes later, Oklahoma rallied quickly. Tiare Jennings got things started with a three-run home run in the first inning, and then Jocelyn Alo nearly hit a three-run blast out of the stadium in the second inning.

Just like that, the Sooners had a 6-0 lead.

Alo hit another RBI in the fourth, and then the Sooners scored eights runs in a massive fifth inning that had a grand slam from Alo that put them up 15-0.

That ended the game there in the fifth inning, and officially sent Oklahoma into the championship series. They'll take on Texas in the series later this week.

The Longhorns rallied out of an early 5-0 hole to knock off Oklahoma State 6-5 in their elimination game on Monday night. They picked up three runs in the fourth off a Courtney Day home run, and then scored three more in the fifth in a wild sequence with two Oklahoma State errors.

The series is set to start on Wednesday night.
