McDonald’s quarter pounder to get even beefier: report

Mcdonald's sign

McDonald's appears to be jumping on the "bigger is better" bandwagon, with a new version of its quarter-pounder patty that will weigh 4.25 ounces before hitting the grill, according to a CNBC report based on their review of an internal document.

Due to the patty's weight and new shape, it is set to look nearly double the size of the original -- the current burger weighs in at 4 ounces but is down to 2.8 ounces once it's cooked.

The bigger burger would be a move on the part of the famous fast food retailer to bring in much-needed sales -- same-restaurant sales at McDonald's have plummeted in the US by 2.4 percent in the last year.

The revamped patty also will be tweaked to improve "the taste, texture and appearance of the burgers," according to the document cited by CNBC. Because the patties will be able to retain more moisture, it will result in "a juicier and more flavorful burger."
