McDonalds says it is unable to verify that a worm was discovered in a customer’s McSpicy burger.

On 2 November at 7.55pm, Twitter user @EvansNabihan claimed he was eating a McSpicy burger halfway when he spotted a worm on it. He tweeted a photo about the discovery, and the tweet was retweeted almost 900 times before the original post was deleted.

Patricia Yong, Director of Operations for McDonalds, told Yahoo Singapore in a statement, “First, let me emphasise that food quality and safety are our top priority and we take all customer feedback very seriously. However, as we do not have a sample of the food item from the customer, we are unable to verify this. We would proceed with investigations if the customer could provide us with a sample of the product.”

On 20 Oct, IT freelancer Jasper Lee claimed to have found numerous “small and white” worms in his Big Breakfast meal.

McDonalds’s lab tests later showed that the larvae found in the sausage patty was two to three days old, and that that worms were not likely to have been in the food when it was delivered.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) also told The Straits Times there was no evidence of hygiene lapses at the outlet which delivered the food to Lee.
