Meet the 5 startups joining Thai edtech accelerator StormBreaker Venture’s first batch

Each startup is set to receive a seed funding between US$15K and US$46K, in addition to access to world-class mentors and advisors

Thailand-based edtech accelerator StormBreaker Venture announced the five startups selected to join the first batch of its inaugural programme.

The five edtech companies, selected from the total 70 applicants received, will participate in an intensive bootcamp from September to October 2018, with the final pitch taking place on a Demo Day in November.

Each of these startups is set to receive a seed funding between THB 500,000 to THB 1.5 million (US$15,000-46,000). They will also get access to world-class mentors and advisors, such as Michael Staton, Partner of Learn Capital and a world top 100 innovator in education; Luis Pinto, Global Operations Partner of Learn Capital and former Executives of Microsoft for Education; Anix Lynch, Partner of Expara Ventures; Thanachat Tangsriwong, Chief Representative of Bangkok Office CyberAgent Ventures; and Scott Bales, MD of advisory firm Innovation Labs Asia.

Additionally, the accelerator will connect the startups to the top regional and global edtech VCs until their Series A stage.

The five startups will also get connection to Thailand Education Partners in order to test and pilot their prototype in the Education Sandbox in three provinces. Besides, they will get fast-track support from LINE SCALEUP Package and LINE Thailand that will thrive business forward. Moreover, the startups might get an opportunity to receive LINE official and be one of the official LINE services funded by LINE.

Launched early this year by Krating Poonpol, Managing Partner at 500 TukTuks, StormBreaker Venture is an ongoing project from Education Disruption Conference & Hackathon, which was set up in the beginning of 2018. With a mission to inspire and impact the Thai education system, the accelerator has massive support from various organisations to leverage edtech transform the education system in the country.

A brief description of the five startups:

insKru

insKru provides a free website for teachers to be able to share, search, comment, and react teaching ideas and materials for teaching.

Vonder

Vondor is a chatbot for personalised learning. It is a bite-sized adaptive content and quiz game to help high-school students master fundamental concepts of core subjects, such as English, Science, and History.

OpenDurian

OpenDurian provides free online test-prep materials written by expert instructors, together with premium online courses. Its academic contents cover whole spectrum of tests, ranging from school-college admissions, tests for language proficiency to professional certification exams.

Voxy

A cost‐effective online platform, Voxy is using a patented AI technology and live instruction from qualified teachers native speaking teachers available 24X7 to create personalised, career-aligned courses including a fully integrated mobile app and real-world content that’s updated daily.

Quest

Quest provides online real-time platform to allow a pathway to the digital literacy of the 21st century focusing on language expertise in IELTS and coding skills. It blends the best of knowledge for global language and coding proficiency to enable best preparation for future professions in Asia.
