Manila, Philippines --- Crowd favorite actress-TV host Megan Lynne Young was crowned 2013 Miss World Philippines in a rainy pageant at the Solaire Resort and Casino complex in Parañaque City early yesterday morning.
Young, 23, of Olongapo City, will represent the Philippines in the 63rd Miss World beauty contest in Jakarta, Indonesia, on September 28, 2013, where more than 100 candidates will skip the traditional swimsuit competition in deference to the host country's religious belief. Instead of the Beach Beauty competition, organizers will present "Balinese Beach Fabric" event.
"I have prepared for this and it's really my dream to become a beauty queen,"' says Young at the end of the beauty contest. She bested 24 other candidates for the title. Reports said that Young had earlier joined the gold edition of the 2013 Bb. Pilipinas beauty contest but was turned down due to a sexy spread in a magazine. Her handlers, however, denied such incident.
During the pageant, Young impressed the judges on the question, "Why do you want to be Miss World Philippines 2013?"Her answer, "Miss World Philippines is selfless, and to be selfless, you need to have a heart. If I win Miss World Philippines, I would give myself wholeheartedly to be of service - beauty with a heart."'
The Fil-Am actress also romped away with six special awards - Best in Fashion Runway, Miss Sports, Miss World Laguna, Miss Bold and Glamorous, Miss Olay, and Miss Bench Body. She stands 5'7.5" tall and measures 33-23-34. Young is also taking up Digital Film-making at College of St. Benilde in Manila.
