The Duke and Duchess of Sussex just announced the closure of their official Sussex Royal Instagram account, on their penultimate day as senior working royals.

Meghan and Harry shared a final post from the @SussexRoyal account, confirming that they would no longer be using it to share news of their charitable work and projects.

"What’s most important right now is the health and wellbeing of everyone across the globe and finding solutions for the many issues that have presented themselves as a result of this pandemicm" they wrote in the accompanying caption.

"As we all find the part we are to play in this global shift and changing of habits, we are focusing this new chapter to understand how we can best contribute.

"While you may not see us here, the work continues."

They concluded the post by thanking the Instagram community for the "support, the inspiration and the shared commitment to the good in the world," adding that they look forward to "reconnecting with you soon". They signed off informally, as simply "Harry and Meghan".

It was confirmed back in January that Harry and Meghan would no longer use their HRH titles, but would still be known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. However, as part of the new agreement worked out with senior aides at Buckingham Palace, they had to cease using the word 'royal' in any of their marketing or messaging - so while Sussex is still permitted, 'Sussex Royal' is not.

The couple subsequently released a statement on their website, pointing out that the Queen has no jurisdiction over the use of the word royal overseas, but explaining that they had agreed not to use it in their branding anyway.

"While there is not any jurisdiction by The Monarchy or Cabinet Office over the use of the word "Royal" overseas, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex do not intend to use "Sussex Royal" or any iteration of the word "Royal" in any territory (either within the UK or otherwise) when the transition occurs Spring 2020," it read.

"While there is precedent for other titled members of the Royal Family to seek employment outside of the institution, for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, a 12-month review period has been put in place."

"Per the agreement, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex understand that they are required to step back from royal duties and not undertake representative duties on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen."

It's not yet known what this means for the official Sussex Royal website, which - at the time of writing - still remains live at sussexroyal.com.
