Read on for our editor's review of the Meghan Markle-approved Clevr Blends oat milk SuperLattes.
There’s nothing quite like starting your morning with a fresh cup of coffee, but for those who don’t do well with caffeine (myself included) sometimes the jolt that comes along with it is just a little too intense.
Tea can be a good substitute for coffee, but often takes a long time to prepare, brew and steep to your liking. That’s why I was so excited when I first heard about Clevr Blends’ oat milk SuperLattes, since they're basically a better-for-you alternative to instant coffee.
The brand recently opened up about their history on Instagram, and dished about how they first got involved with Meghan Markle (the Duchess of Sussex invested in the company in 2020). Keep reading for everything you need to know about the oat milk lattes, plus my honest review of the drinks.
Beloved by the Duchess of Sussex and her pal Oprah (they're a two-time addition to Oprah's Favourite Things), the lattes are available in six delicious flavours that include matcha, chai, coffee, golden milk and rose cacao.
All Clevr SuperLattes are 100% vegan, have 500 million heat-safe probiotics, no refined sugar and 1000mg of adaptogens (Ashwagandha, Lion’s Mane and Reishi). Simply add water to the blend of your choice and you’ve got a delicious drink that’s packed with powerful probiotics, adaptogens and superfood ingredients.
Since each bag has enough for 14 lattes, each serving rings in at just $2.71 CAD a cup — a fraction of what a similar beverage would cost at any coffee shop.
I’ve tried other adaptogenic coffee alternatives in the past and wasn’t a huge fan of their flavour, so I was initially a little skeptical of how the ones from Clevr Blends might taste. From the first sip of Chai SuperLatte though, my fears were cast aside.
I found the drink to be incredibly rich with just the right amount of spice (although my partner said he found it a little heavy on the ginger) and with a velvety smooth consistency.
I followed the instructions on the bag and added four ounces of hot water to three tablespoons of the latte mix. I then blended it in a mug with a milk frother before topping it off with an additional four ounces of hot water. All told, it took me about 30 seconds to assemble.
I’ve tried making both hot and iced lattes and found them to be equally as delicious, with the spicy chai being my all-time favourite of the six flavours. I personally wasn't a huge fan of the earthy turmeric latte, but who am I to deny its proven health benefits?
What others are saying
In addition to receiving a royal stamp of approval, Clevr's oat milk lattes have earned thousands of 5-star reviews from shoppers online. Not only have they been praised for their ease and convenience, but also for their subtle energy boost.
"I’ve only been drinking this for almost a month but can tell it’s helping my moods and having more consistent energy throughout the day," reads one review for the brand's Coffee SuperLatte. "Always a good pick-me-up when I needed. Tastes much better than expected, not too sweet either which I like. My girlfriend has been hooked on the matcha for as long as I’ve known her, now I’m hooked on this!"
"I love all of these! I can’t even pick a favourite. I will be getting more. Very fast and easy to make something that tastes like something you’d get at a coffee shop," added another reviewer.
Does it live up to the hype?
I fist started incorporating Clevr Blends into my morning routine in 2021, and they have become a staple in my home. Unlike after drinking coffee, I haven’t experienced any of the jitters or anxiety throughout the day that often follow a strong brew.
