Who Will Pay for Meghan Markle & Prince Harry’s Security Now that They’ve Moved to L.A.? We Have Answers
Just because they’re no longer senior members of the royal family doesn’t mean Meghan Markle and Prince Harry don’t need security.
Last month, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex released a statement with new details on their future plans—including the fact that the couple (and their son, baby Archie) will continue to have security.
“It is agreed that The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will continue to require effective security to protect them and their son,” part of the statement reads. “This is based on The Duke’s public profile by virtue of being born into The Royal Family, his military service, the Duchess’ own independent profile, and the shared threat and risk level documented specifically over the last few years.” Not surprising considering they are still high-profile individuals.
Yesterday, however, the United States government revealed that they would not be paying for the couple’s security (referencing the Sussexes’ recent move to California).
But, according to a spokesperson for the duo, they already have their security taken care of. “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have no plans to ask the U.S. government for security resources,” the spokesperson said in a statement, according to People. “Privately funded security arrangements have been made.”
The Canadian government has been providing the Royal Canadian Mounted Police as security to the couple and their 9-month-old son Archie since November, but that will obviously no longer be necessary now that the family has moved to Los Angeles.
Private security? Now that’s fancy.
