Meghan Markle's debuts polished royal style at Buckingham Palace -- but not everyone is loving it

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made their first appearance as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex just days after their romantic televised wedding.

The couple attended a garden party with 6,000 guests (no big deal, right?) at Buckingham Palace to celebrate Prince Charles’s 70th birthday.

Although the party was intended for the Prince of Wales and his charitable works, all eyes were on the newlyweds, specifically Markle.

Markle’s look is a major departure from her previous royal engagements — she’s traded in her messy updos for a sleek off-centre bun underneath her blush hat by Philip Treacy.

It seems as though Markle has taken a page from sister-in-law Kate Middleton’s stylebook, wearing one of the Duchess of Cambridge’s favourite labels. Retailing for $790 USD, Goat’s Flavia dress in a pale rose colour is a very feminine choice for the normally cutting edge Markle. Paired with Tamera Mellon pumps, Meghan picked another Kate Middleton favourite by wearing Sloney nude tights.

One celebrity stylist says this is the new and improved Duchess of Sussex. Lucas Armitage told the Daily Mail, “Here we see Meghan as a Royal for the first time and is notable that she has upped her game. We have seldom seen her as co-ordinated and she very rarely wears one colour in this unified way, we are used to seeing royals utilize this mono colour dress code for public engagements.”

However, not everyone is loving her look — with many criticizing her pale tights.

Markle still looked the part of the blushing bride as she was overcome with a fit of giggles when husband Prince Harry was stung by a bee during his speech to his father. The couple were affectionate with one another, as Markle lovingly rubbed Harry’s back as they exited the party.

Only time will tell if Markle’s latest look is part of her royal style-evolution or if this is just a look the Duchess was trying on for size.
