In his jaw-dropping 27-year martial arts career, Mehdi “Diamond Heart” Zatout has never shied away from a fight, and he’s not about to start now.
“When I got the offer by phone, I had to say, ‘Please repeat what you said, because I cannot believe you,’” Zatout said.
“For me to come back to the game [and get the World Title shot] is so amazing. It is a big dream for me. I want to make my family and my team proud.”
And he also wants to make Capitan pay.
The Thai defeated Zatout’s student, Alaverdi “Babyface Killer” Ramazanov, by second-round knockout in January of this year – taking the belt away from the Venum Muay Thai standout in the process.
“Diamond Heart” is well aware of the power that Capitan carries, but he plans to outmatch the World Champion in every aspect of the bout.
“Capitan is a great fighter — aggressive and clever too. I will be more aggressive and more clever than him,” Zatout said.
“He comes forward with kicks and punches like many fighters. I will show my speed, my boxing skill, my power, and my cardio on the day. I think we have a lot of chances to win.”
Zatout has had the chance to see Capitan fight up close, albeit from the side of the Circle while cornering Ramazanov. But now, he will experience the Thai striker from a much closer range.
However, don’t expect the Algerian veteran to falter under the pressure.
“This fight will be a big war because I’m still on fire from the last fight when he fought with Alaverdi,” he said.
“I’ve kept this fire. The war is coming, and I will not run away.”
