KOTA KINABALU: Four SMK Putatan students, whose three friends drowned in a tragic accident at a resort in Membakut on Saturday, will be given counselling.

Sabah Education director Datuk Maimunah Suhaibul said all students and teachers affected by the incident will undergo counselling to help them recover from the trauma.

He said parents of the three drowning victims have accepted their deaths as fate.

The investigation into the case is still ongoing, he told reporters after an orientation programme for 547 new teachers at Wisma Muis here.

The tragedy occurred at a school camping trip. Seven students fell into the water, but four were rescued.

The three boys who died were Hafiz Hamizan Rahman and Daniel Norman, both 16, and Khuzaimi Zakaran, 17.

The camping trip involved 119 students and 30 teachers.
