Member of Johor royal family killed in car crash, daughter injured


JOHOR BARU: A member of the Johor royal family was killed while her daughter sustained minor injuries when the car they were travelling in skidded and crashed at the Inner Ring Road exit near the Danga City Mall here today.

Tunku Amal Jakiah Tunku Mohd Archibald, 58, who is a second cousin to the Sultan of Johor, died at the scene from severe body injuries.

"The accident occurred at about 9.45am on the road leading to Skudai and Pantai Lido.

"It is learnt that the driver, who is the deceased's 22-year-old daughter, was trying to avoid another vehicle when she lost control of the car and crashed into the road divider," Johor police chief Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said in a statement here today.

He added that the body of Tunku Amal Jakiah was sent to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA) for a post-mortem, while her daughter, a businesswoman, is being treated at the same hospital.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. -- BERNAMA
