PENAMPANG: A teen survived stabbed wounds on his abdomen after he was allegedly attacked by a group of immigrants at Plaza 333 off Jalan Pintas here last night.
The incident took place outside a restaurant when the victim Aaron Venon, 19, from Kampung Dabak, Putatan was attacked by seven to eight men, believed to be Filipinos, at around 10.45pm.
Prior to the incident he was dining with four friends before leaving the premises to buy cigarettes from a nearby convenient store.
Minutes later, the group of men armed with knives and machetes attacked the victim. He managed to escape even though they chased after him.
The attackers then turned their attention towards the victim’s friends but they also fled.
The victim was then taken by his friends to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1 for treatment.
Penampang police chief Deputy Superintendent Rosley Hobden in confirming the incident, said the victim sustained stabbed wounds on his left abdomen but is in stable condition.
“We have launched a manhunt for those involved in the incident,” he said, adding that the suspects said to be between 18 and 25 years old.
The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for possessing weapons at riot.
