SINGAPORE — Members of the Merdeka and Pioneer generations can get to enjoy more discounts at Fairprice come 1 July.

Those from the Pioneer Generation will have their three per cent discount extended for another year, with the offer available on Mondays and Wednesdays, said the supermarket chain on Monday (17 June).

The same discount - applicable at more than 140 FairPrice outlets islandwide - will be extended for the first time to those from the Merdeka Generation on Wednesdays.

The FairPrice outlets include FairPrice Shop stores, FairPrice Finest outlets, and FairPrice Xtra hypermarkets.

“This additional benefit to Merdeka Generation members is a simple gesture by FairPrice in appreciation to our seniors for their contribution in developing Singapore as a vibrant nation with a cohesive community,” said FairPrice CEO Seah Kian Peng.

Besides the two discount schemes, FairPrice also offers a two per cent discount on Tuesdays for those aged 60 and above under the Seniors’ Discount Scheme.

Last year, those in the Pioneer Generation who shopped at FairPrice enjoyed over $4.45 million in savings, while shoppers saved over $2.45 million under the Seniors’ Discount Scheme.

The three schemes are estimated to cost FairPrice more than $9.8 million this year.

Shoppers need to present their respective Merdeka Generation or Pioneer Generation cards provided by the government at FairPrice cashier counters to enjoy their discounts.

Those who opt for self-checkout counters need to select either the Merdeka Generation or Pioneer Generation option available on the screen. The discounts are subject to a $200 cap per transaction per day.

Seah added that from 1 July, seniors can pay for their purchases with EZ-link contactless stored value cards, including the PAssion Silver Cards and PAssion Silver Concession Cards.

Those aged 60 and above qualify for PAssion Card benefits.

Separately, those in the Merdeka Generation will also receive a $100 top up for their PAssion Silver Card from the government.
