SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) will gradually increase the retirement age for its uniformed service officers from 55 to 58.

This will be done by 2030, said Minister for Home Affairs K Shanmugam in Parliament on Monday (2 March) during his ministry’s Committee of Supply debate.

He added that the move will “allow us to tap on the experience of our more mature officers”.

“It will enhance career transition efforts and it will help them secure a meaningful second career after retiring from the Home Team,” said Shanmugam, who was responding to a question from Tampines GRC Member of Parliament Desmond Choo.

Yahoo News Singapore understands that the retirement age will first be raised to 56 on 1 July 2021.

Earlier in his speech, the 60-year-old Nee Soon GRC MP said MHA has worked with various partners to encourage continuous learning and the upgrading of skills among its Home Team officers “from recruitment to retirement”.
