Volkswagen Philippines, the best-selling European car brand in the country for 2016, is set to introduce a number of vehicles for the local market at the upcoming 2017 Manila International Auto Show which will be held this coming weekend from March 30 to April 2 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.
Leading the charge will be the all-new five-seater Volkswagen Tiguan compact SUV that’s powered by a 1.4-liter, four-cylinder Euro 6 emission-compliant engine with turbocharged stratified injection (TSI) with Blue Motion Technology that’s good for 148 hp and 250 Nm of torque and mated to a six-speed direct shift gear (DSG) transmission.
Also making its debut at the show is the nine-seater Volkswagen Crafter L van that has a Euro 5 emission-compliant 2.0-liter, four-cylinder biturbo direct injection (TDI) diesel engine that puts out 161 hp and maximum torque of 400 Nm. In addition, a high roofline Crafter on display at the show will be accessorized with six high-back Captain seats, a 32-inch Samsung TV, touch-screen multimedia radio with navigation, window framing with van blinds, accent LED lights, and side step boards.
Another MPV on display at the four-day show will be the seven-seater Volkswagen Caddy which was introduced at last year’s Philippine International Motor Show. The Caddy is propelled by a 2.0-liter 4Motion TDI engine that’s mated to a six-speed DSG transmission to put out 138 hp and 320 Nm of torque.
Volkswagen PH will also have on display at the show special-edition version of some of the vehicles in its lineup.
A 3.o-liter, six-cylinder TDI Volkswagen Touareg Sport Edition that puts out 242 hp and 550 Nm of torque through an eight-speed automatic transmission and the 4Motion four-wheel drive system has been fitted with 20-inch Mallory alloy wheels and front and rear under-run guards.
A Volkswagen Passat Business Edition, meanwhile, comes with LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, Adaptive Chassis Control, 12-way electric front seats, a navigation system, rear view camera, Active Info Display gauges, and a panoramic sunroof to go with its 217 hp 2.0-liter TSI engine and six-speed DSG transmission.
Volkswagen Polo Club Editions in both hatchback and sedan form will also be at the show and equipped with touch-screen multimedia radio with navigation and mirror link plus rear sensors, with the former clad with hyper black wheels as part of the package while the latter is equipped with motorsport Anthracite alloy wheels. In either form, the Polo Club Edition has a 1.6-liter multi-point injection (MPI) engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission which gives it 104 hp and 153 Nm of torque.
A Volkswagen Beetle Club Edition comes with leather upholstery, touchscreen multimedia infotainment syste with navigation and mirror link, front and rear sensors, and hyper black alloy wheels to complement the 158 hp, 1.4 TSI engine and seven-speed DSG transmission.
Accessorized Volkswagen Touran and Golf GTIs will also be at the show, with the seven-seater Touran Comfortline variant fitted with leather seats and touch-screen multimedia radio with navigation and mirror link while the Golf GTI comes with 7.5J x 19-inch black/gloss, twin spoke light alloy wheels.
Beyond the cars, Volkswagen PH’s Child Safety Initiative (CSI) program will move to the next level, two years after it was launched at the 2015 Manila International Auto Show. Aimed at children from nine to 12 years old, the program “will engage children using a virtual reality game app for them to more easily learn, and simultaneously apply, the basics of pedestrian safety.” Facilitating the program will be instructors from the Philippine Global Road Safety Partnership headed by Secretary General Alberto Suansing and Program Director Ma. Theresa Perez.
