The New Orleans Saints are once again underperforming, sitting at 4-6 while their playoff hopes fade away with each fourth quarter mistake. But once again, Drew Brees and the offense are putting out fireworks with one of the NFL’s most dominant scoring units.

As if Willie Snead and Brandin Cooks were tough enough to stop, how about Michael Thomas, the second-round draft selection? He’s caught 56 passes for 681 yards and five touchdowns in year one. His giant 6-3 frame and excellent burst of speed have made him a scary weapon all over the field.

Pro Football Focus’ Michael Renner shared the top 10 rookies so far this season, and Thomas was ranked seventh:

“Week 11 saw a nice bounce-back game for Michael Thomas, who caught all five of his targets for 68 yards. Of receivers with at least 50 targets, Thomas is sixth in catch rate (77.8) and ninth in quarterback rating (111.9). No other rookie wideout comes close to Thomas’ production so far.”

While the Saints continue to struggle when it comes to closing out games, Thomas has been one of the few standouts that puts in his best effort every day. The Saints have another young star to be excited about.

The only question is if it’ll be too late for Drew Brees to win another Super Bowl by the time this defense figures it out.
