Mike Arroyo leaving for Japan, Hong Kong

Mike Arroyo (C), husband of former Philippine president Gloria Arroyo, is escorted by aides to a court room for his wife's appearance for her arraignment in Pasay City, suburban Manila, on February 23, 2012

The Sandiganbayan anti-graft court has allowed lawyer Jose Miguel Arroyo, accused of graft, to travel to Japan and Hong Kong in May, according to a report on radio dzBB.

The anti-graft court gave Arroyo permission to visit Japan from May 3 to 6 to meet with investors who might be able to help with the country's power crisis, radio reports said. He will also head to Hong Kong to rest before coming back to Manila.

Arroyo, husband of Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, will be made to pay a P90,000 travel bond and is required to report to the Sandiganbayan clerk of court as soon as he comes back.
The former First Gentleman was allowed to leave since he has already been arraigned on graft charges over the scrapped ZTE National Broadband Network Deal, reports said.

The Arroyos entered a plea of not guilty at their arraignment on graft charges earlier this month. Former Commission on Elections chairman Benjamin Abalos also pleaded not guilty.
