DAVAO CITY, (PNA) - The province of Compostela Valley, which was badly hit by typhoon Pablo in December last year continues to receive foreign assistance.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has started implementing the construction of its eight Growth with Equity in Mindanao (GEM) Program Infrastructure Projects for the province.
GEM Infra Projects Provincial Coordinator Florentino G. Go, Jr. of the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO) said that the USAID aims to finish the eight infra projects by August this year. Three of the eight projects will benefit the municipality of Monkayo that includes the repair of bridges of Barangays Baylo, Union and Salvacion.
ZAMBOANGA CITY, (PNA) - The multi-million peso sanitary landfill project in Barangay Salaan, 15 kilometers east of this city, is expected to be operational by year-end.
Mayor Celso Lobregat said the project is about 70 percent complete with P65 million allocated for the Phase I of the project. The Phase I include the construction of what is called a cell or deep excavations that are lined with thick plastic sheets to prevent seepage of liquefied wastes into the subsoil.
In actual use, garbage dumped at the sanitary landfill by the city's 25 dump trucks will be covered with soil earlier excavated from the area.
ZAMBOANGA CITY, (PNA) - The Department of Agriculture (DA) in coordination with the Department of Education (DepEd) will establish Gulayan sa Paaralan or school gardens in 600 public elementary schools in the region for school year 2013-2014.
The Gulayan sa Paaralan Program aims to provide nutritious vegetables for the school feeding program to improve the nutritional status of the students and pupils in the region. These 600 schools where the school gardens will be established are nearly half of the 1,790 public elementary schools in Zamboanga Peninsula. High Value Crops Development Program (HVCDP) regional coordinator Ana Aying said these 600 schools include the 400 schools already involved in the program since 2006.
PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, (PNA) - The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has released the first tranche funds of P2,973,500 to Dinas municipality to jumpstart the implementation of water system projects under the Bottom-Up Budgeting (BUB). Dinas, which comprises of 30 barangays, is a 4th class municipality of this province with 31,570 individuals in 6,033 households as of 2000 census on population. DILG Regional Director Paisal Abutazil said Friday the P2,973,500 fund released in check is part of the P5,947,000 water system projects to be implemented in Dinas town.
TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte, (PNA) - The country's 'Banana Capital' will be joining the league of billionaire provinces when its annual budget exceeds the P1-billion mark next year.
Governor Rodolfo del Rosario announced that the province will hit a major breakthrough in its annual budget, with the projected income of P1.082 billion in 2014. The proposed budget was endorsed by the Provincial Development Council (PDC), during its regular meeting last June 19, 2013 at the Bulwagan ng Lalawigan.
