Western European Dota 2 stalwarts Nigma Galaxy announced on Tuesday (6 December) that star carry player Amer "Miracle-" Al-Barkawi has stepped away from the active roster and will be taking a break for the upcoming 2023 Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) season due to health issues.

Nigma Galaxy didn't disclose what health issues Miracle- was dealing with but assured fans that the carry player is expected to return to the roster.

The team also said they will release more details about the situation during the DPC season.

"Taking a break from the game he loves wasn't an easy decision, but it is an important step Miracle- chose to take to address his health condition. We fully support him and can't wait until he's ready to come back," Nigma Galaxy said in a statement.

Miracle also said in a statement on his personal Twitter account that, despite his health break, fans of Nigma Galaxy will still see him behind the scenes.

"I have decided that it's time for me to go on a break from competitive play to take care of health issues. You will be seeing more of me behind the scenes supporting and helping the team," said Miracle.

Nigma Galaxy has yet to reveal who will be taking Miracle's place as the team's carry player for the 2023 DPC season. The team previously confirmed that Sumail "SumaiL" Hassan, Ivan "MinD_ControL" Ivanov, Maroun "GH" Merhej, and Kuro "Kuroky" Salehi Takhasomi remain on the roster.

Aside from Miracle's replacement, the only other change Nigma Galaxy made was swapping out longtime coach Roman "rmN-" Paley for former Gaimin Gladiators coach Daniel "ImmortalFaith" Moza.

With the roster lock for the 2023 DPC season on 9 December, Nigma Galaxy is expected to announce its full roster in the next couple of days.

Miracle's departure from Nigma Galaxy's active roster is the latest of many developments in the global Dota 2 scene's ongoing post-The International 11 (TI11) roster shuffle.

With so much of the Dota 2 competitive scene cantered around TI and its multimillion-dollar prize pools, most teams are formed with the goal of getting to the game's world championship tournament in a bid to claim the Aegis of Champions and the lion's share of the massive prize.

The post-TI period is often filled with moves and shake-ups as teams try to finalise their rosters before the lock date, which is on 9 December this year.
