PAPAR: The body of a five-year-old boy was found washed up on a beach near Kampung Andus here.
Villagers discovered Mohd Jafar Abdullah, a pupil of Tadika Kemas Kampung Kuala, about 10 kilometres from where he was last seen alive.
Jafar’s mother had dropped him off at his grandmother’s home at Kampung Kuala Dalam before she went to fetch his elder sister from SK Kuala at 11.30am yesterday.
It is learnt that the boy walked out of the house around noon, without anyone noticing. Upon her return, the mother could not locate Jafar, and searched for him frantically.
She found the boy's school shoes by the beach, about 50 metres from his grandmother’s house, and sought help from villagers, before lodging a police report at the Papar police headquarters at 8.30pm on the same day.
District police chief Deputy Superintendent Nor Azizulkifli Mansor said a search and rescue operation, involving the police, fire and rescue personnel and villagers, was immediately carried out.
“The operation was called off at midnight and resumed today. Villagers found the boy at about 6.30am on the beach at Kampung Andus,” he said.
The deceased was taken to the district hospital for a post mortem and police classified the case as sudden death.
“There was no criminal element found at the scene or on the victim’s body, but we are investigating,” added Azizulkifli.
