What we know about teenage sisters found after sparking concern by leaving home with suitcases

Two teenage sisters who sparked concern after vanishing from their home have been found safe and well.

West Yorkshire Police (WYP) launched an appeal after Halima Ahmed, 15, and Khadeeja Ahmed, 14, from Halifax, were reported missing on Wednesday morning.

The pair had been seen on CCTV carrying small suitcases after reportedly disappearing overnight.

On Thursday evening, WYP said the sisters had been found safe and well, and thanked everyone who had shared the appeal or provided information to police.

What we know

Halima and Khadeeja were reported missing from their home in Halifax, West Yorkshire, at 8am on Wednesday 14 August. It is understood that they disappeared overnight.

CCTV footage showed them both carrying small silver suitcases. One was also seen carrying a bright pink backpack.

The footage showed that they were both wearing dark coloured clothing with headscarves.

After launching an appeal, police announced on Thursday evening that both sisters had been found.

In a post on X at 5.25pm, West Yorkshire Police said: "Two teenage girls who were reported missing in Halifax have been found safe and well. Halima Ahmed, aged 15, and Khadeeja Ahmed, aged 14, have both been found safe and well.

"Thank you to everyone who shared the appeal or who provided information to the police."

What we don't know

Very few details were released by police other than the names, ages and footage of the girls after they went missing, then the update saying they had been found.

No information has been revealed about the circumstances that led to them being reported missing, or where and how they were found.
