MLB betting: Dodgers' win over Giants in NLDS makes them World Series favorites again

The Dodgers are once again World Series favorites.

Los Angeles beat San Francisco 2-1 in Game 5 of their NLDS on Thursday night to advance to the NLCS against Atlanta. And that victory moved Los Angeles from +350 to win the World Series to +135 at BetMGM.

The new odds make the Dodgers the favorite to win the World Series again. L.A. opened the postseason as the World Series favorite despite having to play in the wild-card game but lost that title to the Astros when the Astros closed out the Chicago White Sox in four games.

Houston is now the No. 2 favorite to win the World Series at +220. The Astros are the only other team among the four remaining that has a significant chance to win the World Series in the eyes of oddsmakers. The Red Sox are at +450 and the Braves are +550.

Dodgers are by far most popular choice

Oddsmakers are hoping that someone other than Los Angeles wins the World Series. The Dodgers are the only team remaining that’s gotten over 10% of bets at BetMGM.

L.A. has received 12.8% of World Series wagers. That money makes up over 20% of the handle. The second-most popular bet is the Astros. Houston has gotten 5.7% of tickets and that money makes up just 4.6% of the handle.

“With the Giants eliminated from the playoffs, the Dodgers are the only remaining liability for the World Series at BetMGM. The sportsbook will be cheering for the Braves in the next round,” BetMGM's Halvor Egeland said.

The ALCS begins Friday night in Houston while the NLCS begins Saturday night in Atlanta.
