ONE Championship star Angela Lee is out of her title bout on 24 November after getting hurt into a car accident in Hawaii.
The 21-year-old mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter was not seriously injured in the accident, which took place as she was driving to a training session at a gym in in Honolulu, Hawaii, said ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodong in a Facebook post on Wednesday (8 November).
According to the post, Lee had fallen asleep at the wheel and police said her vehicle flipped five or six times.
“Miraculously, she survived with only a concussion, some minor burns, and a banged up body. If she was not wearing a seatbelt, it would have most certainly been a different story. I saw photos of the damaged car, and it was a complete wreck,” wrote Chatri.
The upcoming “One: Immortal Pursuit” card would have pitted Lee against Japan’s Mei Yamaguchi in an atomweight title bout rematch. Lee has a 8-0 record record in her MMA career.
Born to a Singaporean father and South Korean mother, Lee holds Canadian and US citizenship and resides in Hawaii. She trains with the Evolve MMA gym when in Singapore.
In October, Lee got engaged to fellow MMA fighter Bruno Pucci. Pucci referred to the accident in an Instagram post on Wednesday. In an Instagram photo post of himself and Lee, Pucci wrote, “It shocked all of us. It’s a miracle you are alive and we’re blessed for that!”
