MANILA — The relocation of Baclaran vendors to HK Sun Plaza in Macapagal Boulevard in Pasay City will begin in the third week of May.
The MMDA said they cannot relocate the more than 3,000 legitimate vendors currently positioned in Baclaran.
For this reason, there are other vendors whose stalls are in a good location will be left in Baclaran.
The agency is considering allowing the vendors to operate every Wednesday and Sunday, the days when buyers flock Baclaran.
MMDA General Manager, Thomas Orbos, allayed the concerns of over 1,000 vendors to be relocated to HK Sun Plaza regarding stall rental fees.
“Meron pong bayad yun pero ito po ay, yan po kasi ay pagmamayari ng SSS meron pong kailangan bayaran dun pero napakababa po talaga yung bayad,” Orbos said. (There is a rental fee. The establishment is owned by SSS. There is payment but it’s very affordable.)
Pasay City Mayor Antonio Calixto called for cooperation from vendors in Baclaran as well as from motorists with illegal terminals at the service road in Roxas Boulevard.
“Yung disiplina dapat i-implement nila sa kanilang mga sarili, upang maipagpatuloy po pamahalaan maging ng national o lokal ang iba’t-ibang programa na ikakabuti ng lahat,” Mayor Calixto said. (They must implement self-discipline so that the local and the national governments can implement programs for their benefit.)
On Tuesday, the local governments of Pasay and Parañaque formally turned over the responsibility to maintain the cleanliness and orderliness in their areas. — Joan Nano | UNTV News & Rescue
