The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is evaluating the implementation of congestion pricing among vehicles traversing Edsa.

Under the proposal, the MMDA will collect traffic congestion fee from all private vehicles while all public utility vehicles are exempted from it.

The MMDA said this system is based on the existing traffic law in Singapore which brought about 45% reduction in traffic problems in that country.

MMDA general manager Thomas Orbos said the agency and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) met with officials from Singapore’s Ministry of Transportation regarding the said plan. — UNTV News and Rescue
