PASIR PUTIH: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) intercepted and seized two Vietnamese fishing boats, with a total of 10 crew members, for encroaching into Kelantan waters in separate operations here yesterday.

Kelantan MMEA deputy director (operation) Ismail Hamzah said 350 kilogrammes of sea cucumbers and 650 litres of diesel were also confiscated during the operation which was carried out 53.3 nautical miles off Tok Bali beach.

He said the two boats were spotted by an MMEA patrol vessel which was conducting routine surveillance of the area at about 2.30pm.

“The crew members were all found to be without valid work documents,” he told a press conference here today.

Ismail added that the total value of the haul, including the sea cucumbers and boats, is estimated at RM2 million.
