Mobile Legends: MPL Malaysia is country's longest-running esports tournament record

The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Malaysia (MPL MY) has been awarded the record for the longest-running esports tournament title in Malaysia by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR).

The MBOR is a Malaysian project to publish records set or broken by Malaysians every year, working like the country's version of the Guinness World Records.

MPL MY began in 2017 as a combined league for Malaysia and Singapore, called MPL MYSG. The combined league ran for six seasons until 2020 before being split into two standalone leagues for Malaysia and Singapore in 2021. MPL MY is currently in its 10th season.

The initiative that got MPL MY into the MBOR was kickstarted by the league's fans and casters, who took to social media to campaign for its induction into their country's records project.

The exchange of record will take place on 16 October during the MPL MY Season 10 grand finals at the Quill City Mall Concourse. The event will be open to all and will feature activities and prizes for fans.

"We are honoured to receive this prestigious title, and it is a testament to the hard work from our community and team," stated Fikri Rizal Mahruddin, Business and Marketing Lead for MPL Malaysia said in a press release.

"We would like to thank MBOR for awarding the title to us... This community-wide effort would not have happened without the support of our fans, and we thank you for your passion and hard efforts to make this happen."

"MPL Malaysia has played a huge role in shaping the direction and growth of the national esports industry," added Jwan Heah, Chief Marketing Officer, MBOR.

"The league has created several opportunities for young players who have blossomed into great role models and veterans, and set an industry benchmark in terms of esports production and management. The award recognises the league's efforts to help nurture the ecosystem and its objective to help Malaysia prosper as an esports hub."

MPL MY Season 10 features ten teams fighting for the lion's share of a US$100,000 and a spot at the M4 World Championship, which will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia in January 2023.
