Unlicensed food handlers were nabbed at a Geylang Serai Bazaar stall on Tuesday (30 May), said Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC MP Zainal Sapari.

Responding to a post on the Halal Cafes & Restaurants In Singapore Facebook page, he said the food handlers had also been working illegally and were arrested as part of a joint operation by the police, Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and the National Environment Agency (NEA).

Twenty-two unregistered food handlers who were also working illegally have been arrested during the joint inspection and investigations are ongoing, an MOM spokesman said.

Many online, including those commenting on the aforementioned post, had been speculating on the possible reasons for the arrests after photographs allegedly showing men being handcuffed at the stall were circulated via social media on Tuesday afternoon.

Yahoo Singapore has reached out to MOM for comment on the incident.
