The MoneySmart Guide to Online Grocery Shopping in Singapore: Who Should You Buy From?

You could chalk it up to a number of reasons: busy schedules, easy of use, perhaps even laziness to a certain degree. Whatever the case, online grocery shopping is taking off in a huge way in Singapore. You might not have realised it, but there are a sizeable number of players in the game right now.

We previously did a comparison on whether it makes more sense to buy your groceries online or take a trip to the supermarket every week. On the good recommendation of some of our readers, we’ve decided to take things one step further and do a comparison of the main service providers for online grocery shopping, looking at the differences between service fees, cost comparisons for perishables and non-perishables:

1. Service Fees

4. The Verdict

For all intents and purposes, it would appear that Redmart is truly way ahead of the competition in terms of service fees. Having the lowest delivery fee as well as the lowest minimum spend for free delivery certainly makes their service a compelling one, and it’s no surprise they’re leading the market (pun intended) when it comes to independent online grocers.

However, if you are thinking of getting fresh food, which at this point seems to be in relatively lower demand, then going with one of the smaller providers like GoFresh will not set you back all that much.

If you truly insist on shopping from NTUC and Cold Storage, don’t be silly and order directly from them. honestbee is able to deliver in a much more timely fashion and at a much cheaper cost as well.

Lastly, taking advantage of any sign-up bonuses might be great for a one-off purchase, but if shopping online is going to a consistent thing, then you really should make sure that you get the best credit card that will help you to save money when you’re making your purchases online.
