After two days of investigations, MOONTON Games's MPL (Mobile Legends Pro League) committee has decided to impose a two-year ban on former Team OP players for "inciting religious discourse".

The Mobile Legends (MLBB) players involved, Goh "Ryeb" Wei En, Wendall Sean "DarA" Tan, and Jackie "PAAA" Lee, had been dropped by Team OP following discriminatory remarks made in a ranked match against Malaysian Geek Fam players earlier on March 29.

The two-year ban will mean that these three players will not be able to play professionally in all MPL and official MLBB tournaments for the period of two years.

"Based on our course of investigations, players of Team OP were found to have engaged in discourse around religion during the match. This is a very serious violation, which does not follow the values and principles of the league to nurture a united esports ecosystem together," read a statement put out by MPL on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Randall "Bush" Tay, who had made insensitive remarks and subsequently fined by Team OP, was handed a one-year ban for "inciting harassment". This will effectively rule him out from competing for Team OP for a year.

Lastly, Team OP will also be penalized by having 10 points deducted from its MPL SG Regular Season 3 for "mismanagement of players".

Given that Team OP have effectively lost four of its main players, the punishment likely means its season is over before it has even begun.

However, MOONTON had told Yahoo Esports SEA previously that the team would still be competing in the current MPL SG season, provided they find replacements.
