The long-awaited showdown between ONE Championship’s best flyweight mixed martial artists is officially set for 2021.
The main event of the yet-to-be-named show will air during prime time in the United States through ONE’s partner channel, TNT, on Wednesday, 7 April.
The bout has been a long time coming in The Home Of Martial Arts.
Moraes last competed in January 2019 when he defeated former belt-holder Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio to claim the ONE Flyweight World Title. Prior to that fight, he defeated the likes of #2-ranked contender Danny “The King” Kingad and #3-ranked contender and former flyweight king Kairat “The Kazakh” Akhmetov.
Johnson, meanwhile, last saw action in October 2019 when he defeated Kingad in the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix Championship Final, earning his rightful shot at Moraes.
After falling in his promotional debut, Alvarez redeemed himself with a submission win over Filipino icon Eduard “Landslide” Folayang.
“The Underground Kid” has made his ONE World Championship intentions clear since joining the promotion, and a win over the Lapicus could see him enter the top-five lightweight ranks and get closer to a shot at reigning king Christian “The Warrior” Lee.
Rodtang and Smith will clash in a non-World Title Muay Thai bout that will introduce the electrifying sport to a wider North American audience.
In the meantime, catch all the action from ONE Championship’s next event, the previously recorded ONE: UNBREAKABLE II, next Friday, 29 January, by downloading the ONE Super App or tuning in meWATCH at 8:30 p.m. Singapore Standard Time (SGT).
