SINGAPORE — More than 230 community sports projects were approved by Sport Singapore (SportSG) for this year’s GetActive! Singapore (GASG) campaign, offering virtual activities for Singaporeans to stay active and socially connected.

In a media release on Tuesday (21 July), SportSG listed several examples of such projects under the Active Enabler Programme, which will lead up to the National Day celebrations:

  • FMS@Home: a four-week programme for children with disabilities to develop fundamental movement skills (FMS) through fun and easy games at home. New games will be introduced weekly to develop habitual movements and build confidence.

  • Nurture Kids@GetActive! Singapore Obstacle Challenge: A nine-week programme which aims to train and challenge preschoolers to overcome a set of obstacles and in the process, gain values of perseverance, sportsmanship and resilience.

  • Challenge 55: Participants may sign up as teams or individuals to clock in 55,000 and 5,500 steps respectively. Proceeds will be donated to Food from the Heart and its beneficiaries.

“GetActive! Singapore 2020 will continue to enable our people to connect as one and celebrate the nation’s birthday,” said SportSG chief executive officer Lim Teck Yin.

“It has been a challenging year, but it has given us the impetus to develop creative and diverse ways for the community to stay active, while practising safe distancing.”

With most of GASG activities being delivered digitally, participants are encouraged to connect on social media by tagging #GetActiveSG in their photo uploads for a contest where 55 of them stand to win more than $4,000 worth of vouchers. The contest runs from Friday to 7 August.

As part of the National Day celebrations, students will be participating in SportSG’s inaugural Schools GASG Workout Competition 2020. Schools are encouraged to submit their best video entry of students doing the workout and stand a chance to win prizes.

More than 7,600 students have also signed up for the pilot phase for GameOn NILA! E-spiration Fit for Life, which includes various virtual challenges that can be performed from home or at facilities such as schools or ActiveSG venues.

GASG workout, Pledges from the Heart

This year’s GASG workout incorporates moves from the past four years of workouts, and features a remix of this year’s National Day Parade (NDP) theme song “Everything I Am”.

In partnership with the NDP Organising Committee and SGCares, SportSG has launched the Pledges from the Heart campaign, which aims to garner 500,000 pledges revolving around themes of staying united, helping those in need, active learning and building a sustainable future.
