Morena Baccarin Discusses Deadpool ‘Sex Montage’

‘Deadpool’ isn’t the first 15-rated superhero movie to come out of Marvel and 20th Century Fox’s ‘X-Men’ universe for nothing, as has been made abundantly clear by the gore, swearing and brief glimpses of sex in the redband trailers.

Now, Morena Baccarin, who stars as the anti-hero’s love interest Vanessa, has spoken about shooting what she describes as a ‘sex montage’ with Ryan Reynolds.

The ‘Firefly,’ ‘Homeland’ and ‘Gotham’ actress - currently heavily pregnant with her second child - appeared on US talk show Live! with Kelly and Michael to promote the upcoming movie, and unsurprisingly the question of the love scenes came up.

Deadpan, Baccarin described the experience as “terrible. It was really painful, guys. I mean, the guy is just so ugly. He’s gross… mean guy, no sense of humour.”

Asked how she prepares as an actress for shooting such intimate sequences, Baccarin was similarly droll: “You don’t eat for a while… first of all, you could hurt yourself on [Reynolds]’s abs. He’s been training for a while, he knows how to do this stuff.”

More seriously, Baccarin admitted, “I was a little intimidated, I’d had a child… as a woman, you feel more judged, I think, than the guys do in this kind of scenario.

“But… we talked a lot about the set-ups. I need to know, what are you showing, what’s going to be the camera angle, has everybody got my back here - and then you literally just have to dive in and have fun together. And it was great.

“When you see the film - it’s a sex montage… after you see it you’ll realise, ‘oh, they must have had fun with this.’ We were trying to come up with absurd ways to have sex. But it’s really romantic!”

Baccarin also explained a bit about what drew her to the character of Vanessa.

“In these movies, it’s usually a damsel in distress and he’s going to save her. It’s really different in this film, which is what attracted me to it.

“She’s very much one of the guys, curses like a sailor, does bad ‘Star Wars’ jokes. A really strong female character, really fun.”

‘Deadpool’ opens in UK cinemas on 10 February.
